Thane, Dec 18 (UNI) Five alleged hoodlums have been traced and arrested from the capital of Uttar Pradesh for their involvement in cases of robbery, intimidation and vandalism, informed police here on Wednesday.
The accused have been identified as Bharat Jadhav (25), Abhishek Singh (23), Ashutosh Kalkala (21) and 19-year-olds Parameshwar Patole and Abhishek Ambavkar, all of whom are residents of adjoining Navi Mumbai, said police.
According to police, the accused assaulted two friends with stones and subsequently robbed cash and valuables, totalling up to Rs 35,000, from them in Waghoba Nagar of Kalwa suburb here on December 4.
The Kalwa Police registered an offence under the IPC section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and initiated probe into the crime.
Based on intelligence inputs, the sleuths traced the accused robbers in Lucknow of Uttar Pradesh and consequently arrested them on December 10.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to their crime, said police.
The police stated that the accused also revealed that they had indulged in another crime on the same day in Navi Mumbai wherein they intimidated one Sunil Kumar Dubey (46) for extortion.
When Mr Dubey expressed his inability to give extortion, the accused assaulted him and threatened to kill him, told police.
In third case, separate charges under relevant IPC sections were framed against the accused with the MIDC Rabale police station for smashing the four wheelers of Corporator Vikas Janjad and three others, apprised police.
