Lioness rescued from farmwell in Gujarat



Amreli, Mar 9 (UNI) A lioness, which had fallen in a well at a village near Gir forests in Amreli district of Gujarat while chasing a goat, was on Monday rescued by the Forest officials.

CCF Junagadh D T Vasavada said the big cat, aged around 11 years, had fallen in a farm well at Jira village, close to Dalkhaniya range of Gir East forests.
He said the beast had fallen in the well, while trying to hunt a goat. Her claws got damaged, as she tried hard to come out of the well and stay afloat. She also had an injury mark on right eye and one punctured wound on the right lateral thigh region. 
She was pulled out from well after tranquilisation and shifted to Animal Care Center in Jasadhar, for further treatment.
Earlier, an around eight-year-old male leopard, which was seen by villagers at Hussepur village in Padra taluka of Vadodara district in central Gujarat, was also caged on Monday. It was also sent to a rescue center.
