Fire in lion's abode, no casualty.



RAJKOT: A major fire broke out on the banks of river Shetrunji near Kakrach village in Liliya taluka of Amreli district on Wednesday night. The fire soon spread out in the area in which parts of lands belonged to private ownership and remaining was government wasteland.
Amreli district forest department officials rushed to the spot as soon as they were informed about the incident. The area is a habitat of wild animals like Asiatic lion and leopards besides others.
"The area where fire was broke out was a revenue area and government wasteland. We along with our rescue team rushed to the spot and launched an operation of douse the fire," deputy conservator of forests, Amreli district, J K Makwana said.
Makwana said there are no reports of animals being injured in the fire. Forest officials, however, are yet to know the reason behind the fire which spread over the 200 bigha land. Fire department battled the blaze for around five hours before it was controlled. tnn
According to the last census, there were 411 Asiatic lions out which 108 were in Amreli district.
