Panaji, Feb 3 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday told State Legislative Assembly that monkeys and peacocks had emerged as menace for horticulture crops in the state and steps were being taken to rein in the same.
In a written reply in response to a question tabled by Congress MLA Aleixo Lourenco, Dr Sawant, who also holds Forest portfolio, said fruit bearing local forest
species were being planted in forest areas and other lands available for plantations.
'Water holes are also maintained inside forest areas for the use of wild animals,' he said.
He said though government had not given any assurance that money and peacock menace would be controlled in the short time but Forest Department was making all efforts to control or minimize monkeys and peacock menace.
He said Agriculture Department dealt with compensation for crop damage.
