Asiatic lions to grace Lucknow zoo.

LUCKNOW: Visitors to Lucknow zoo will soon get to see the Asiatic lions. A team from Lucknow zoo has gone to Rajkot zoo to bring two Asiatic lions.

The ageing lion pair of Prince and Shubhangi at Lucknow zoo would get a 'much younger' company once the two Asiatic lions -- four-year old lioness Hir and a year-and-a-half lion cub -- arrive by weekend. The duo, besides being young, are also genetically superior as they are of pure bloodline. At present, Lucknow zoo has two lions. The male lion Prince is almost 18-year-old and has lived its prime. Lioness Shubhangi is equally old. The two were brought to city from Chandigarh zoo in April 2003. They are hybrid lions - a cross between the Asiatic and African lions.
