Forest officials in Gujarat came into action following carcasses of
three Asiatic lions found in decomposed condition in the past 48 hours
from the eastern part of Gir Forest and Sanctuary to find out the cause
of death of the big cats.
“Around a year old lion’s carcass was found on Thursday late evening.
A day before two other carcasses of lions aging around three to five
years also found in decomposed state. All three cases found inside
Dhalkhania rang of Gir forest situated in Amreli district,” said a
senior forest official requesting anonymity while confirming the deaths
of three big cats within the only abode of Asiatic Lions in the world –
Gir forest.
According to the official, the lions must have been killed at least a
week ago as their bodies were decomposed and mutilated in such a manner
that it would be difficult for the experts to determine its sex.
He however said that the cause of death would only be known once detail postmortem report of the three carcasses would come.
