A video of three people harassing a pride of lions and obstructing them
from feasting on their prey has gone viral, prompting an inquiry by the
forest authorities. They are now checking if the video is recent and
what location was it shot at in order to nab the three culprits. The
authorities say that harassing the lions is as serious an offence as
hunting down the animal.
While they are not visible in the
video, they can be heard harassing the lions and trying to force them
away from the carcass they are feasting. In the video, one person is
heard saying that he will only shoot the clip while the other remarks
that the "PSI seems to be afraid to move closer to the animals".As they try to get close to the lions, one of the animals charges at
the men. But that does not deter them. One of the men screams at the
lioness, trying to shoo it away. But she roars again and the men roar
back louder and manage to chase her away. The harassed animals can be
seen walking away, leaving the half-eaten carcass. In the end, one of
the men is heard saying, "I will not let you eat now."
Forest
department has initiated an inquiry to trace out the culprits. Talking
to Mirror, Chief Conservator of Forests, Junagadh A P Singh said, "All
the DFOs and other officials are trying to find out the exact location
where the incident took place as well as ascertain how recent the video
is. Also, we need to be sure it is not fake. This is a serious crime and
as grave as hunting an animal. What happened to Salman Khan may happen
to these people who indulged in such an act." Last month, the forest
department had arrested one person for a lion show after a video went
viral. Later on, they found out there were over 100 such videos on his
phone. Singh said, "We need to check if this video is among the 100
found from him."
